West Tulsa community forums to be held

TULSA – Route 66 Main Street announces it will hold two public forums for the West Tulsa community. The upcoming events will connect district stakeholders to those who have the tools to expand upon the visions of area residents and business owners.

  • February 29, 2020 – 9 a.m. – Route 66 Historical Village, 3770 Southwest Blvd.
  • March 11, 2020 – 6 p.m. – Red Fork Distillery, 3310 Southwest Blvd.

The forum will be foundational to planning projects, programs and activities for Route 66 Main Street. Anyone with an interest or a stake in the district is encouraged to attend.

Route 66 Main Street is a local 501 (c)(3) affiliate of the Main Street America and Oklahoma Main Street programs. Its district boundaries are from the Cyrus Avery Bridge (11th Street Bridge) down Route 66/Southwest Blvd. to 33rd West Ave.

Main Street employs a Four-Point Approach to revitalization:

  1. Organization: Developing a volunteer base; funding; communication; and developing a positive image for the district.
  2. Design: Improving the physical environment of the historic commercial district – buildings, public spaces; beatification; encouraging appropriate design; and historic preservation.
  3. Economic Vitality: Edifying the business environment and expanding the economic base.
  4. Promotions: Marketing the historic district as a destination; planning activities and events that draw people to the area.

From the community forums, Route 66 Main Street leaders hope to gain input from the public living, working and doing business in the district. The goal is to turn those concerns and ideas into viable ways to make West Tulsa thrive.
